First Timers: High Horse, Kacey Musgraves

13 October 2026

Never heard before. Doesn't know who it is. Thinks it's Taylor Swift inspired chorus line from Love Story. "You ain't ever gonna come down". "It's not a bad song". First verse has interesting phrasing "everyone knows someone who knows someone", it's unusual. Very pentatonic hook in the chorus. There's a bit in the pre chorus that adds a bit of tension that isn't pentatonic. The voice sounds like it's the same all throughout. Lot's of call and response. Good pop song. (Not Cians usual music... I'll pick a better song next time).

Floppy, trunky, speary, snakey songs.

Are the strokes more popular now than they ever were? It seems highly plausible to me but I can only really compare what I can see now with what I've read that came before - and just how much can I trust those pesky, puckish so called music journalists? I have not read meet me in the bathroom but I have witnessed the adults are talking sneak into being their most streamed song, and I was in attendance for their second sold out show in the 02 with Keys. I was 4 when 'Is this it' came out and besides enjoying Last Nite occasionally on the FM, the Strokes mostly influenced my youth through the hundreds of bands they influenced after that album. I actually stubbornly resisted listen to the Strokes for a very very long time, because I was worried so many of the bands I loved who were so often compared to the Strokes would sound trite and derivative to me after I had heard the band that they were stealing their moves from.
